Years ago I would buy Grandma's fruit cake every year at Christmas time. That was when it was Metz Baking Company. I just found an old flyer included with the cake that showed the original ingredients. I then went online and compared the ingredients to what you use now. It's a pity you have added high fructose corn syrup. Now I won't buy your cakes anymore. Here's a very informative article about HFCS. I hope someone who runs the company reads this comment and removes it from the recipe. I used to so love that fruit cake! http://drhyman.com/blog/2011/05/13/5-reasons-high-fructose-corn-syrup-will-kill-you/
Hello Paintdancer,
We always enjoy hearing from customers who love our Grandma’s Fruit & Nut cake, even if it has been many years since you purchased one. Our customers buy these cakes year round because they appreciate that we have not changed the recipe or ingredients. So, it is the same great quality you recall from years past! What changed is that Beatrice Bakery Company is better defining the ingredients than what was revealed on packaging you purchased from Metz years ago. We are working with suppliers to remove the high fructose corn syrup from their product, as it is NOT an ingredient we add separately. So it is the same fruitcake you so loved years ago and we hope will give a try again soon!
